Le coincidenze ci hanno accompagnato in questo numero di Residui. La coincidenza nell’avere comuni ricordi d’infanzia legati alla Val Tanaro, la coincidenza nel trovare con facilità gli ingressi dei luoghi che abbiamo visitato e la coincidenza nella sintonia degli intenti. Le esplorazioni infatti nascono da esperienze pregresse. La prima in un hotel abbandonato dopo un incendio avvenuto negli anni ‘80. Luogo un tempo lussuoso ed ora simbolo della decadenza di un turismo che non appartiene più a quei luoghi. La seconda in una cartiera, con la pavimentazione coperta di fango ormai permanente dalle ultime alluvioni, e adesso emblema di un boom industriale che non è più legato a questo periodo storico. Dopo e durante un incendio o un’alluvione, il paesaggio muta, prende forme diverse trasformando in parte il territorio. I primi a scappare e a tornare sono sempre gli insetti. Loro ripopolano, per primi, i residui di quello che la natura ha distrutto e che la natura si riprende.

Coincidences played an important role in this issue of “Residui”. The coincidence in having common childhood memories linked to the Tanaro Valley, the coincidence in easily finding the entrances to the places we have visited, and the coincidence in the harmony of intentions. The explorations in fact stem from previous experiences. The first one was in an abandoned hotel after a fire in the 1980s. A once luxurious place has now become a symbol of the decadence of a tourism that no longer belongs there. The second exploration was in a paper mill, where the floor covered in permanent mud from the latest floods, and now emblematic of an industrial boom that no longer belongs there. After and during a fire or flood, the landscape changes, takes different forms, transforming the territory to some extent. The first to escape and then return are always the insects. They are the first to repopulate the remnants of what nature has destroyed or took back.
